Work placements and industry partners

TIWA prepares you to become a job ready employee, graduating with practical skills and confidence.

Many courses include a work placement in your chosen industry. This kind of work experience helps you put your learning into practice. It's also a great opportunity to see what working will be like in your industry. When you get your first job, you will already have an idea of what to expect and do!

TIWA's study areas that include work placements in registered offsite agencies with industry partners are:

  • animal care;
  • applied fashion design;
  • bricklaying and carpentry;
  • community services;
  • early childhood education and care; and
  • nursing.

Other TIWA courses include simulated work placements in settings that replicate real work environments in campus facilities. Engage with industry experienced lecturers in classrooms and hands on environments such as restaurants, laboratories and workshops. These study areas are:

  • automotive;
  • aviation;
  • beauty;
  • cookery;
  • conservation and land management;

I really liked the emphasis on the hands-on learning both here at the clinic and the learning that we do out in the field.

The Vet Nursing program is great because they also offer additional assistance to international students.

I love Perth so much! I think after graduation, I will be freelance in this industry in Australia and probably Japan, too. I can choose my work style.

Student Sachiho is in the middle of the picture. She smiles towards the camera. She stands in the foyer of North Metropolitan campus. There's an office behind her with clear window walls. There's tables and chairs situated in the foyer. Sachiho is wearing a grey jacket and a floral top.

TAFE course units have provided me a chance to acquire the practical skills I will need in the engineering field. The content I have been learning has been challenging, but my lecturers are all very supportive, caring, and willing to share their knowledge as much as they can.

Lecturer Ben Tan stands towards the camera with a big smile. He's wearing a light brown business shirt with his name badge on his right chest above branding that says "Saltbush Restaurant." On the left side of his shirt, it reads "South Metropolitan" with the "TAFE WA" logo. Sitting on a bench behind him are two plunger coffee pots in stainless steel. There's a brown panelled wall that fills the backdrop.

I completed my studies in July 2010 and almost instantly found employment within the industry. In 2020 I started working at SM TAFE as an events management lecturer at the Bentley, Fremantle and Mandurah campuses, teaching a variety of units across events, hospitality management, food and beverage and first aid.
